Humans Do Not Satisfy My Soul

I got married to an amazing man, Jonathan about a years ago.

I started that first year of marriage out determined to be the best dang wife. I went all out on everything. I made amazing home-cooked meals for him, packed his lunch, threw him a surprise birthday party, wrote him letters, did random acts of kindness, made sure he had guy time, saw his family on a regular basis, and more.

BUT....

I was about 6 months into this when I felt completely defeated. I felt like Jonathan didn't fully appreciate everything I did and he did not respond to me how I imagined he would. I, therefore, no longer had a desire to be super wife.

I went to my best friend for advice. She genuinely listened to me and understood my feelings of hurt. She then, simply asked me the question "who were you trying to be super wife for"? I thought about it, and first I defensively thought, for Jonathan of course! We stayed quite a little longer as I thought some more.

I soon found out I was being super wife for me. I wanted to be the best wife in order to feel worthy, loved, wanted, desired, and needed. As soon as I didn't get what I wanted from Jonathan, I didn't want to put in the effort anymore.

TRUTH BOMB

You see, when we try to please any human being in our life, including ourselves, it NEVER SATISFIES our soul. As much as we try. It won't. You know it deep down. That is why you continually get angry and resentful towards your own friends and people in your life, because they, quite simply, never treat you good enough to feel 100% worthy, loved, wanted, desired, and needed.

THE GOSPEL

That's where Jesus comes in. He's the only one who left His perfect dwelling place of heaven to come to Earth and become Human. To live for 33 years knowing He would die a brutal and horrific death just to save us of our sins and to HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH US. He loves us that much. Only with a relationship with Jesus do we feel 100% satisfied --worthy, loved, wanted, desired, and needed.

Isaiah 58:1 says, "The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail."

ENCOURAGEMENT

My prayer for you is to ask Jesus into your life as your savior. Then pray to Him to reveal to you how He satisfies us and continues to every day in the every day moments. The word satisfy seems so abstract but it's really more simple than we think.

Once we know Jesus is our source and strength of satisfaction, we can then pour out love onto those around us like a spring whose waters never fail. Now that's powerful.
