Love as Christ Loves the Church

This is the face he makes towards selfies. To be honest marriage is hard. Especially the first few years. Everything about marriage is counter intuitive to our flesh which is to serve our own desires and wants. I'm thankful that through marriage's struggles and beautiful moments God can show us more of Himself even in the little things. Jonathan did things for me this weekend I know he'd prefer not to, said sorry first when I didn't deserve it, said I love you and hugged me when I was full of anger towards him, but he did it anyway because God wants him to love his wife just as Jesus loves the church and Jesus died for the church (Ephesians 5:25). Marriage is about giving glory to God by denying our selfish desires and sacrificially and unconditionally loving our spouse and praising the Holy Spirit for giving us the means to do so. Def. not the most attractive message in our culture today. But let me tell you first hand. When we do this in our marriage -- it's breathtakingly beautiful because we are being satisfied and trusting fully in God and not in each other.
